Artistic Reflections of the Year

As 2025 Wraps Up, It Is A Time For Reflection…

2025 seems to have passed in the blink of an eye. And to that, it has been some time since I posted an update on the happenings at Artscapes By Sherry. However, it has been very busy as I continue to expand my artistic endeavours.

And so, as the year wraps up, it is the perfect time to reflect on the interesting moments; the creative processes and the struggles and successes that I experienced these past twelve months. Through the trials and triumphs – I feel 2025 helped me to become a better and even more inspired artist – and writer.

I would like to share a few of the highlights of this year with you. Below are some of the projects that kept me busy in 2025…

Children’s Storybooks About Nature And The Magnificent Species Within…

While continuing to advance some of the artwork from my ‘Darkness’ series art line (dedicated to Canada’s species at risk) as well as finishing a few other art pieces, the balance of projects were set aside in 2025 as I took on the challenge that initially began in 2024 with the inception and creation of the first book in what will be my future line of children’s storybooks.

This project became a new opportunity to expand my voice for Wild Canada. These colourful, easy-to-read rhyming storybooks are designed to engage young generations and introduce them to the world of Nature, its beauty and its fragility. All books are created in simple format and very relatable to young children. It is, after all, our youth that will become the next great stewards of our natural spaces and all of the incredible plants and animals that live within those special places.

2025 brought this venture to new heights with the completion and publication of my first book – ‘Saving the House That Jeff Built’ – a colourful story that tells the tale of ‘Jeff’ the endangered Jefferson salamander from the Mount Nemo region of Burlington, Ontario. The book’s introduction was first seen in February, 2025 during my interview on CABLE 14, Hamilton Life and followed in March with articles in both Burlington Today News and Flamborough Today News. News in March, followed by my interview on CABLE 14 TV, Hamilton Life in April. The launch took place in the spring to coincide with the annual spring migration of this species.

Giving Back To Help Protect Local Species

As part of the ‘Darkness’ series program, I will be donating a portion of the net proceeds from the sales of ‘Saving The House That Jeff Built’ to local organizations that work to study and protect the habitat of the Jefferson salamander. I extend my sincerest thanks to everyone that purchased copies for themselves or young ones – all which helps toward this cause.

~ Special Funding For Artscapes Brings More Opportunities ~

As my goal has been to expand my storybook line – ‘Saving Wild Canada’ in an effort to provide young readers stories about special places and wildlife throughout Ontario and eventually all of Canada, I decided to explore funding options.

Late in 2024, I applied for special funding with the hope of receiving assistance to create a book that would cover the unique features and creatures in my home town of Stoney Creek/Hamilton. I am thrilled to say that, in the spring of 2025, I was awarded partial funding by the City of Hamilton City Enrichment Fund (CEF) to help bring this new book to fruition.

I am excited to announce that my second story – ‘Saving The House Mother Nature Built ~ Hamilton Region’ has been completed and is now in book form and available to purchase!

‘Pet Hugs’ ~ A New Art Line…

Newly launched in 2025, ‘Pet Hugs’ (as shown below) is a dramatic art style that I refined earlier this year. I created it in the spirit of my ArtFusion line. This new art form is designed to showcase your special pet and you. Whether furry; feathery; scaly or otherwise ~ your ‘pet baby’ is the star of this special painting.

Taking an artist’s liberty with colour, accents and enhancements, I create a one-of-a-kind piece that is designed to be representative while imaginative. This custom artwork is produced using acrylic paint and completed on heavy art paper. It is ready to *mat and place under glass and frame.

*a single or double mat is a must and required to protect the integrity of the artwork and keep the painting from touching the glass.

Your Special Pet Babies…

Whether your special pet is a tiny domestic rat or mouse; dog; cat; bird; turtle; snake; fish; horse; farm animal or anything else – provided your photo portrays you with your pet in closeup fashion, a custom piece may be possible. Close up photos are required. A review of your photo will determine if the subject matter will be suitable for this special art style and form.

For more information on this custom line, please enquire through the Contact Us page.
