More Magic ~ What ’s Revealed When You Least Expect It…
by Sherry / July 14, 2022 / SIGHTINGS, Perfect Moments For A Wildlife Artist

As a wildlife artist I have always been drawn to everything Nature. Whether looking through a window to see songbirds flitting about, enjoying drives through the countryside where wildlife can be spotted everywhere or discovering the beauty of North America during various travels, I truly believe that there is something wonderful to see and enjoy around every corner! With all of this wonder, there is no doubt that an artist can find many perfect moments.

From plucky little foxes that tenaciously trot past whilst sporting dinner in their tightly clenched teeth to the enchanting beauty of an iconic butterfly as it drinks the riches provided by pretty flowers, the availability of subject matter is endless.

Cool blue can add much to an artist’s canvas. It can provide an incredible backdrop for the intended subject. Conversely, this glorious colour can also be drenched within the actual subject. A rich blue sky makes the perfect contrast for an eerily branched tree with its commanding occupant. The gentle ripples on a deep blue lake highlights the gathering of waterfowl. The stunning blue markings of a Swallowtail Butterfly richly contrasts black wings, adding another incredible dimension.

There is wonder in every living element within Nature which ultimately gives an artist permission to explore it depths and honour the extraordinary beauty that is bestowed upon our artistic senses. It comes down to the vision and style that we see as individuals. While some, like myself, choose more realism in our pieces, others find the abstract side of the subject. There really is no right or wrong when it comes to artistic impression it is what pleases us the most at the easel
and beyond when the piece is complete.

I love to explore what my personal capabilities are and what I am able to derive when I see my subject and determine how I want to best portray its existence on the canvas or board. I often wonder what draws an artist to a certain style or medium. Clearly there is something that is triggered in both mind and emotions that drives each artist to their end goal. Whatever the feeling, for wildlife artists, there is a world of possibilities and so much to discover. When I spotted this incredible creature on my balcony railing, I knew that there was a special painting waiting to emerge. What a truly remarkable subject and spectacular backdrop. I look forward to the commencement of ‘Cicada at Sunset’ ©

I hope that you enjoyed this interlude discussing all creatures great and small. Whatever your perspective, such beauty can be found when eyes are wide open. For wildlife artists, there are sights to cherish and endless opportunities for inspiration.

I look forward to sharing more moments of magic ~ For The Love Of All Things Nature…
